- Firearms Sales in State - You must be twenty-one years of age to purchase any firearm or ammunition at Rocky Mountain Guns & Ammo. You must also be a Colorado resident and be able to pass a Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) background check conducted via ATF Form 4473. This usually takes about 15 minutes but the CBI can take up to three business days.
- Firearms Sales Out-of-State - You must be twenty-one years of age to purchase any firearm or ammunition at Rocky Mountain Guns & Ammo. We will ship the firearm at your expense via UPS to any other licensed firearms dealer in the state you reside in, we will need a signed original copy of their Federal Firearms License prior to shipping. You will then complete the ATF Form 4473 in your home state and must comply with any other laws applicable to you. Since you are taking possession of the firearm somewhere other than Colorado, you will not pay Colorado sales tax.
- FAQ's Reference Background Checks:
- The background check is NOT gun registration. At no time does the person conducting the background check ask for the serial number of the gun(s) you are purchasing. Additionally, the Government does not keep records of who purchases firearms. That being said, the ATF requires that we keep their form 4473 for twenty years and that does reflect a record of who purchases firearms!
- If you are a convicted Felon, or have been convicted of any crime of domestic violence, the law prohibits you from owning and therefore purchasing a firearm. Additionally, if you are prohibited from owning or purchasing a firearm and you knowingly send someone else to purchase one for you that is a "straw purchase" and is also a Felony. So don't do it!
- If the Colorado Bureau of Investigation DENIES you the purchase of a firearm we will supply you with a denial letter immediately. The CBI will not tell us over the phone confidential details of why you were denied. The CBI will not tell you over the phone the details of why you were denied. You will have to contact the CBI via a letter to ascertain the circumstances of your denial. Keep in mind, if Mr. Jones at 1234 Mystrret gets denied at XYZ Gun Shop, then Mrs. Jones at 1234 Mystreet comes into Rocky Mountain Guns & Ammo to purchase a gun that is a straw purchase that is tracked by the CBI. So don't do it!
- Firearm and Ammunition Final Sales - The purchase of a firearm is final. The moment you walk out the door the purchase of a firearm is final. There are no refunds. This is because the minute the firearm leaves the store it is considered used. Firearm resale prices are based on the condition of the firearm. New in box (NIB) means the gun is more valuable then it would be if it were in 98% condition, or 90% and so on. Ammunition sales are also final and the law requires that the sales of ammunition be final. Bottom-line; be sure of you're purchase.
- Law Enforcement, EMS and Active Duty Military Discounts - Rocky Mountain Guns & Ammo proudly offers a discount to Law Enforcement Officers both Federal and Civilian, full-time EMS personnel, and current active duty Military personnel. This discount does not apply to Security Guards, Veterinarians, Dentists or any other non-emergency medical personnel, or Reserve or part-time Military personnel. We will give a discount of 10% when paid with cash or check or 8% when paid with a credit card on any item not just firearms. This discount does not apply to items that are already on sale or to items that are marked Law Enforcement Only.
- Layaways - When purchasing an item on layaway we require a deposit of at least 40% of the sales price and that you pay the item off within 60 days. Are we very strict about this...NO? We do require that you keep us informed. If you purchase an item and have a difficult time paying it off, just keep us informed. It's when we haven't heard from you in 60 days that we assume you don't want the item any more and will put it back out for sale. In the event that you cancel a layaway we will charge you a 20% of the purchase price for a re-stocking fee.
- Consignments - We charge a consignment fee of 20% of the selling price for each item or 15% if you are purchasing a firearm from us. We allow you, for the most part, to set the sales price of the item, but if we think that you are asking too much we'll tell you so or we might refuse the consignment.
- Trades - We gladly accept most trades but admittedly we are in the business of selling firearms not buying them. We will ask you to set the initial selling price. We place our selling price on every item in the store and ask you to do the same when you want us to buy from you. There will more than likely be some negotiation on your initial selling price.
